For nearly 84 years, Oma has taken care of everyone else. Now, she needs our help.
Meet our Oma, Karin.
Oma is hardworking, fiercely independent, and always there when someone needs her. She raised three children, helped raise a grandchild, and is still helping care for a great-grandchild.
Even at almost 84, she continues to work, delivering newspapers along a 90-mile route. She loves her customers and the sense of purpose her job gives her, but she also relies on that income to pay her bills.
Now, Oma is facing a heart procedure. We’re waiting to learn whether it can be done through her leg or whether she’ll need open-heart surgery. Either way, she’ll need time away from work to recover. If it’s the least invasive procedure done through her leg, it’s a 6 week recovery. It’ll be 6 months if they have to do open-heart surgery.
With the holidays approaching, she’s especially worried about missing work and losing the tips that help make ends meet. She still has household expenses and people who depend on her, and she’s concerned about how she’ll manage while she heals.
Oma has never been comfortable asking for help. She’s always been the one giving it. But after a lifetime of caring for others, she shouldn’t have to choose between taking care of herself and supporting the people she loves.
We’re hoping to raise enough to help cover her bills, living expenses, medical bills that her insurance isn’t covering, and recovery-related needs while she’s unable to work. Our goal is to ease her financial stress so she can focus on her health and healing.
If you know Oma, have received a newspaper from her, or simply want to support her story, any donation or share would mean so much to our family.
After spending nearly 84 years showing up for everyone else, it’s our turn to show up for Oma. ❤️
With all our love and gratitude,
Oma’s Family
