Gold Star Navy Mom with Cancer Needs Help

“It’s Cancer.” Nobody wants to hear these words. . .ever.

As I sit here thinking about everything Ell Meagan has been through in the past few years, I never would have thought that cancer would be added to the list. While I work to raise funds to help her with her burdens, I want to tell you a little about Ell Meagan’s story. For starters, anything helps, and no donation is too small. Whether you donate or not, please share her story to encourage others to donate.

I met Ell Meagan when we were in second grade at our community swimming pool when she congratulated me for beating my older sister in a swimming contest. We became best friends instantly and have been friends ever since. We have seen graduations, marriages, kids, life, the good, the bad, and the ugly, we’ve seen it all.

Three years ago, I watched her lose her younger son, a loss that no mother should ever experience. Although Quinn was a Navy Petty Officer 2, his death was unexpected because he was not fighting a war, yet she was burying him anyway. Not only was she dealing with losing her child, she was also fighting to help others who lost family members, for better treatment of survivors. This entire experience was an emotional and financial burden for her. She still deals with her grief to this day.

Now not only is Ell Meagan dealing with grief, she has a new challenge, cancer. A routine mammogram showed questionable results that required further investigation. This led to more testing, more appointments, and more headache and heartache. These tests uncovered fluid on her lungs, yet another problem for her to deal with. To make matters worse, she also has Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome, a connective tissue disorder which causes issues with joints, skin, and blood vessel walls. Ehlers Danlos Syndrome can cause complications that may arise during and after surgeries to remove her breasts, to reconstruct, and the revisions that follow. This issue limits the centers that are experienced at dealing with her specialized needs. The centers that are best equipped to help her are out of state. Ell Meagan will need help paying for hotels, travel, food, and medical treatment.

Although there is so much that I can’t do for Ell Meagan, what I can do is to share her story, hoping that others will help me to raise money to get her the treatment she needs and wants.

I can tell you that Ell Meagan is well worth helping. She is well worth saving. And she is well worth the time and energy that you expend to get her on her way. She is worth it.
