It’s All In Your Head is a short film project about a girl’s experience with an undiagnosed chronic health condition. Based on the writer’s own life, we follow the main character as she grapples with her own body and the relationships with her friends and family.
Making a film like this is incredibly important to the lived experience of women living with certain health conditions. Being dismissed by healthcare professionals is something almost every woman has had to go through in their lives. This film is being made to shed some light on this and how it can be detrimental to women’s physical and mental health.
Writer’s Statement
Around 2016 I experienced my first fainting episode, passing out at a petting zoo when I was just 11 years old. It had taken me seven years to finally get a diagnosis, though I had been dismissed multiple times by doctors, told that my symptoms were ‘all in my head’, a phrase that felt important to mine and other women’s medical experience, hence the decision for it to be the title of the film. As a film student, the lack of representation of this has led to me using filmmaking as an outlet for my experience with the hope that lots of people can relate to the story.
