It's A Knockout Fundraiser Greig Steven Memorial

Hi, my name is Claire and I am part of a team asking you to please donate to a charity very close to our hearts who helps families living with cancer. 

Myself and some friends, namely Fiona, Kirsteen, Pamela, Hannah, Lynsey, Linzi and Simon (aka 'The Blairfield Bangers') are competing in an 'It's A Knockout' event on Sunday 19th June at Valefield Park, Kilbirnie to raise funds for this most valued cause.

Greig was a much loved and is a sorely missed friend and colleague. Please read his story below, but to give you an instant 'Greig' snapshot - he was kind, funny, had THE most infectious laugh and was first up last off the dance floor.

You may have been lucky enough to have had a friend like him. We were. And for that we'll always be thankful. Greig passed away at the unfair and untimely age of 25 years old.

Shortly after his 25th birthday, Greig was diagnosed with a rare and aggressive form of cancer, Cholangiocarcinoma. Greig fought his battle with bravery, determination and dignity. Sadly, 6 months after diagnosis, Greig passed away.

Always enjoying life. 

Greig had the most beautiful smile, infectious laugh and put those around him instantly at ease with his warm and welcoming character. He loved nothing more than being outdoors, surrounded by his beloved animals and spending quality time with loved ones. Greig always had a sense of adventure and at the age of 16 he travelled solo to Australia to spend a month with family. Having a keen passion for horses from a very young age, Greig volunteered every weekend to muck out and take care of the horses at a local farm, where he learned how to horse ride. In his adult life, Greig owned three beautiful horses, Simba, Beau and Kipper. His love for horses also led him to his career working for Police Scotland as a groom at the Mounted Branch, although he was fondly given the honourary title as “Yard Manager….” As well as his love for animals, Greig enjoyed skiing and deep-sea diving and his hobbies took him exploring to many different countries. Although 25 years was far too short a life, we are so thankful that his sense of adventure allowed him to pack in so many amazing experiences and create lasting memories which family, friends and colleagues cherish.

Greig Steven Memorial (GSM) Charity No SC050722 was set up in April 2016, by family, colleagues and friends of Greig Steven in memory of our much loved and missed Greig. After 3 years of intense fundraising, we purchased a luxury lodge set in the beautiful Whitecairn Country Lodge Retreat in Glenluce. Greig’s House offers those in Scotland suffering from cancer, a 5-night complimentary break away in a peaceful setting. We accept applications from all age groups, children, young people, and adults, regardless of stage and type of cancer.
