I-Thou
Dear community,
My name is Rafi Ruffino Darrow and I am honored to be creating the dance work “I/Thou” in partnership with SAFEhouse for the Arts. This piece, as part of their Resident Artist Workshop, will explore the experience of trans disabled embodiment through the lens of diasporic longing.
This piece draws on Jewish philosophy and mythology and critical race theory to begin to imagine a world where our bodies are recognized and adored, where disability and trans identity can speak beyond the question of “what’s wrong with you?” that populates the space between viewer and performer onstage, opening up a world of more expansive, brilliant answers.
Along with dancers Jai/James Severson and Alex Ayuna, we will reach towards the homes of our people and bodies. We will dance towards the love encounter, pulled into the singularity of the moment, in which we come to recognize ourselves as whole.
All funds will go directly to the dancers and light designer!
