Not 300-pound linemen eating pasta in Florence before boarding a bus to France, yet, somewhere in the heart of Tuscany, one of the most unexpected sports stories in Europe is unfolding.

The Guelfi Firenze are the undefeated Italian champions in Serie A Football.

Over the last two seasons, this team has built one of the most dominant runs Italian football has seen in years:

18 straight wins,

a national championship,

and a place in the CEFL.. One of Europe’s highest levels of club competition(think champions league in soccer, but with shoulder pads)...

which means the boys are headed across Europe to continue representing Italy on a much bigger stage.

The only problem? Getting there.

Last season, on the way to one of the biggest games of the year, the team bus broke down on the side of the highway outside Rome.

At one point, forfeiting the game became a very real possibility, but somehow, we still made kickoff, and somehow… we still won.

Which feels like a pretty accurate summary of this entire organization, because this team has never been built on luxury, it has been built on obsession.

Built on brotherhood, built on Americans and Italians somehow become family through football, road trips, late-night dinners, questionable transportation, and a shared refusal to lose.

Some players crossed oceans chasing to keep a dream alive, others stayed to help build the future of the sport in Italy, now together, we’re helping turn American football in Italy into something people around the world are starting to notice.

La maggior parte delle persone non associa l’Italia allo sport più americano di tutti: il football.

Non a dei linemen da 140 chili che mangiano pasta a Firenze prima di salire su un pullman diretto in Francia.

Eppure, nel cuore della Toscana, sta prendendo forma una delle storie sportive più inaspettate d’Europa.

I Guelfi Firenze sono i campioni d’Italia imbattuti della Serie A di football americano.

Nelle ultime due stagioni, questa squadra ha costruito una delle strisce più dominanti che il football italiano abbia visto negli ultimi anni:

18 vittorie consecutive,

un campionato nazionale,

e un posto nella CEFL… uno dei livelli più alti del football europeo per club (pensate alla Champions League del calcio, ma con le spalline).

Questo significa che i ragazzi stanno attraversando l’Europa per continuare a rappresentare l’Italia su un palcoscenico ancora più grande.

L’unico problema? Arrivarci.

La scorsa stagione, mentre andavamo verso una delle partite più importanti dell’anno, il pullman della squadra si è rotto in autostrada fuori Roma.

A un certo punto, il rischio di dover rinunciare alla partita era diventato molto reale.

Eppure, in qualche modo, siamo riusciti comunque ad arrivare al kickoff.

Sulla fratellanza.

Su americani e italiani che, attraverso il football, i viaggi infiniti, le cene a tarda notte, trasporti discutibili e una voglia condivisa di non perdere mai, sono diventati una famiglia.

Alcuni giocatori hanno attraversato oceani pur di continuare a inseguire un sogno.

Altri sono rimasti per aiutare a costruire il futuro di questo sport in Italia.
