Italy honeymoon wish metastatic breast cancer

As some of you know, my beautiful wife was diagnosed with terminal metastatic breast cancer a year ago. She has had some progression on two lines of immunotherapy but is currently doing well on the latest combination. 

 As a pediatric and adult oncology nurse, to say this diagnosis has expanded my heart to hold more feelings and paradoxes, is an understatement. I like to say my heart is getting bigger and bigger to hold more compassion, love, grief, joy, sadness and beauty all at the same time. I am so grateful to all the people who generously donated their time and expertise.

 The reality that time is uncertain seems more acute with this diagnosis, and we are committed to living in the present as fully as possible. We have dreamed of living overseas, even if for 3 weeks, so we started a “Go Fund Me” to pay our expenses to hopefully go and live in Italy. Anastasia was originally born to Greek parents and adopted by an American GI and Japanese woman; she has never had the experience of living in Europe. And I have been a fan of Italian opera since I was an undergraduate student and loved many of the Italian artists! 

 And lastly for anyone who has had cancer, has cancer, has witnessed their loved ones, patients, children, friends, suffering from all that a cancer diagnosis brings, I honor you all. I see you; I love you.
