Italy Goals! Send 07Girls Ibis Team to Italy

TormentaFC launched a study this year to see what happens when you remove the financial barriers to high quality training  and focus on skills, abilities, effort and character.  Seventeen girls were selected and signed the pledge to uphold the expectations and core values of the program.

Soccer is life for the Tormenta '07 Girls Ibis.  Being on the team is already a unique experience. Now they want to take that experience to the next level by taking their soccer play international, with a trip to Italy to play local Italian teams.

It has been so exciting to see a diverse team come together; girls from Beaufort, Hardeeville and Hilton Head, South Carolina and Effingham, Pooler and Savannah, Georgia.  Diverse in ethnicity, language, a spectrum of socio-economic backgrounds and life experiences, they share dedication, effort, kindness, respect and fun.

Like the undaunted, graceful Ibis that is their mascot, the Tormenta '07 Girls Ibis practice four days a week and spend hours commuting and carpooling to practices and weekend games. Then they go home and practice some more, juggling soccer balls in the living room or with brothers and sisters in the backyard.

When Coach Jeremy Aven came to them with the question, "Do you want to play soccer in Italy this summer?" the answer was a resounding YES!!

As a team, the girls are working to raise the money to cover the trip, so that all players can attend.

Here's what the girls have to say about taking their boots to Italy:

"This experience will be very exciting and this is a great way for us to get better as a team. I know most people haven’t been out of the country and this will be a great experience. Also who doesn’t like Italian food?"-player

"I am happy that I am on Tormenta because I get a lot of opportunities and everybody on the team gets better each time we play. I feel it would be an amazing experience to go to Italy because we will learn so much not just about soccer but about the amazing culture. Lastly, we
will get to eat pizza and pasta!"…. Sophia Okumu

"I am on this team because I love soccer. This team is important to me because it helps us bond with different people. I think that it is good that we are trying to go to Italy because we are going to get to learn about other countries and get to learn how people play soccer. Italy also has great food"… Callah Dando

We are launching a multifaceted campaign to raise the $3,500 per girl needed for this trip, in total $49,000.  We will wash cars, gift wrap presents, sell tamales, sell sponsorship and accept donations to reach our number.

Your donation in support for this trip will provide a LIFE CHANGING experience for these girls.  Thank you for your support!!!
