Sequoia's Rotary Exchange to Korea

Donation protected
My name is Sequoia Heidt-Kausch. I am a Junior at Leon High School. I live with my single mom who, after 20 years, has gone back to college and is working really hard towards her degree in Biological Science.

After an extensive applicaton process and three interviews I have been chosen to participate in the 2015-16

Rotary Youth Exchange Florida

. I will be spending my senior year in South Korea, leaving sometime in August of 2015, but before I can leave there is a large tuition fee and many other expenses to study the language and become prepared for this amazing journey.

Rotary International is the world's oldest and most international service organization. The program's primary mission is "To work towards peace and understanding in the world".

Traveling opens one to experiencing other ways of life, expanding ones worldview, and to better understand other people. I believe that with Rotary we are not just tourists or passerbys, but participants in the local culture. I will be going to school, speaking the language (as well as I will be able to), and becoming part of the community. This will be an amazing growing experience. I am greatful and thrilled to be part of it and eager to face the challenge.

While I am in South Korea I will keep a blog to record my journey. All Rotary students are required to have one which I think is great. Rotary provides a blog space for each student so as soon as mine is up I will include a link for anyone who would like to read it. I will also post pictures on my blog.

But, for all of this to happen, I really need your help.

Thank You!
