It's Weird I Know: the Story of Tagpro Crowdfund

It’s Weird, I Know: the Story of TagPro will cover the beginnings of TagPro as well as the history of the competitive side of the game. Through interviews with significant figures in the community and casual players alike, the documentary will explore the reason why an unassuming webgame ignited such an intense passion for them during that period of their life. What does it mean to them now, and what did they get out of the game and its community? Along with that, archival footage will be sourced from significant moments in TagPro’s history as well as images and videos from TagPro meetups that occurred.

Any funds given to this campaign will go directly toward the completion of the project. Specifically, I intend to use these funds for traveling expenses, equipment rentals/purchases, food costs while on the road, plus any other extraneous costs that may arise.

I want this project to be something that the community creates together, to be a collaborative process where anyone who would like to have input on the project can do so.

Any donations, however big or small, are appreciated. It's nerve-wracking to put myself out there like this, but for something I've wanted to do for so long, it's worth it.

Hey all! Just in case you can't watch the video, I'll type out the gist of what I go over:

LA Meetup July 27th at a barcade called Button Mash. Doors open at 4:00 PM. Under 21 have to leave after 9:00 PM, you have been warned.

What have I been up to? Meeting up with people on the West Coast, interviewing as many as I can get to. So far the interviews I have recorded have been amazing, and the feedback I've received from people I've interviewed has only been positive.

The response to my first announcement post has been overwhelmingly positive. The GoFundMe is very healthy and still able to receive donations. The film will be made with the current budget, but any further donations will go towards enabling me to polish the film and to allow me to have solutions for technical details like figuring out where to charge my camera batteries or laptop in order to offload footage to my hard drive. Not having to worry about things like that will give me more of an opportunity to think creatively about the story and the project. To this point, I have not spent a single cent of the current GoFundMe money. It is in a separate bank account from my personal one.

Road trip details: I will be traveling across the country in order to gather as many interviews as possible. LA is only the beginning of the meetups. I would like to have more meetups along the way as I pass through certain cities. People local to the cities who could help me organize this would be an extraordinary help at this time.

Here is the rough itinerary, subject to change:

7/27 - 7/28: LA

7/31 - 8/01: Austin TX

8/03 - 8/04: Florida

8/05 - 8/06: Georgia

8/08 - 8/09: Philadelphia

8/10 - 8/11: NYC

8/11 - 8/12: Connecticut

8/13 - 8/17: TBD

8/18: Ohio

8/19: Chicago

I have a website now (thank you MKo!), you can find it here:

Overall, this project has been a surreal experience, that word keeps popping into my head whenever I think about it. I would've never guessed I'd be doing this five years ago, but here we are. I will continue forward.
