High school can be the best time of your life or the worst time of your life. If you are lucky enough, you can find a teacher who can make all the difference in the world. For me, that was Ms. Alicia Fine. She was an art teacher in 2001 when we met. Maybe it was that we were both petite, sarcastic firecrackers... or maybe it was that she saw artistic potential in me... or maybe she could just sense that I was an adolescent in need of a mentor. Whatever the reason, she believed in me. She invested her time and love in me. She fought for me. Now, it is time to fight for her.
Life can be unfair. Inexplicable, and heartbreaking. Unfortunately, Ms. Fine (I cannot bring myself to call her by her first name, even after 19 years) has been suffering and fighting breast cancer for a couple of years. Recently, her cancer spread. She has undergone hormone therapy, surgery, chemotherapy, radiation, and infusions. She was told she had a 1% chance of the cancer coming back. Just six months later, she went to the ER for what she thought was a pulled muscle and it turned out the odds were against her. It is back.
This campaign is meant to support Ms. Fine in her health and recovery. We want to raise funds so that she can pay medical bills, parking at hospitals, meals, medications, and take time off of work to rest.
Please help if you can to support someone who has changed the lives of more youth than can be measured.
