Eric “House” Woolard is a native of Myrtle Beach and Seahawk that graduated in 2001.  He is a familiar face in the service industry, spending many hours and making friends wherever he goes.  If you ever frequented Blarney Stones or 5 O’clock Somewhere back in the day, he was there.  More recently he had been at Sea Captain’s House, Carrabba’s and TGI Fridays before joining the team at Dagwood’s Deli & Sports Bar in Surfside Beach 5 years ago.   His 6’6” stature may have given him the nickname House, but he is a gentle giant, just ask anyone he has ever met.

House has faced ongoing bone infections for the last seven years mainly affecting his feet.  It all began with an open wound resulting in a MSRA staph infection.  The battle with sores, pain and lots of doctor visits, creams and his foot in a boot commenced.   He returned to work after a year off and never missed a beat even though he was still in pain and a boot.   Earlier this year, open wounds persisted, and he learned that he had Charcot-Marie-Tooth Disease that is a genetic bone disease plaguing extremities typically feet and hands.   He had surgery earlier this summer that he was hoping would be the final fix to repair his foot.  Instead, the surgeons had to make the decision during surgery to amputate his left leg from shin down.   House woke from surgery to learn the devastating outcome and his new challenge.  House has spent two months on a scooter and has just received his first temporary prosthetic leg.  A temporary prosthetic typically last anywhere from 3-5 years before having to be replaced.   Without insurance and multiple years over time without income, this has been a major strain on his finances.

House wants nothing more than to get back on the line and make countless cheesesteaks, burgers and sandwiches again.  He is looking forward to resuming his trips to Universal with his family to see many superheroes including his favorite, Wolverine.  House has had many superhero moments here to his fellow teammates with his friendships and jovial spirit.  It’s time for all of us to be his Superhero!

Please help us reach our goal is to raise enough money to cover the cost of his new prosthetic.
