It's Noella's Birthday!

When I grow up I dream of becoming a pilot because I am always passionate to travel to discover the world and especially to be among the women pilots because it is really rare to see female pilots in my country. I don’t know about you but I find my birthday triggers a New Year-type moment. An opportunity to reflect on my achievements and also my aspirations yet to be fulfilled. I become another year older and wiser and more attuned to the truth that life finds its greatest meaning in bringing positive change to peoples’ lives. This year I am dedicating my birthday to Malaika. Birthed out of my own sense of gratitude for the opportunities I was afforded growing up as well as a deep love for the people in DRC, Malaika has grown over the past 12 years and now provides 346 students with a high quality, holistic education. 


We have built an innovative ecosystem that provides health check-ups, nutritional food, and uniforms for our girls by upskilling adults in Kalebuka. At our community center parents learn vocational skills, including literacy, computer training and business entrepreneurship while the village youth engage in recreational sports and tournaments focused on public health awareness and gender equality. We grow food and have built and refurbished 19 wells to provide clean water to 30,000 locals. 


We at Malaika are working to transform a community, empower parents and educate future female leaders and we want to see it continue to grow and impact many more people. As my birthday approaches, the gift of supporting our girls and their families and neighbors in Kalebuka is all I wish for - and your contribution will make a world of difference for thousands.
