Hi. My name is Linda Thurlow and the last thing I ever want to do is ask for money. On June 30, 2020 I was diagnosed with bladder cancer. The prognosis was good and my doctors had a solid plan. First, chemo to shrink the tumor, then surgery to remove my bladder. A new bladder would be created from a portion of my bowel. I would have a urostomy bag for the rest of my life. After I recuperating from surgery I could go back to work and get back to normal. Four months max I thought.
Well it didn't happen that way. The chemo caused mouth sores so severe that I couldn't eat and could only drink water for about two weeks. One day my neighbors found me on the floor and took me to the ER. I had had a stroke and was in the hospital for a month. My lack of energy, nutrition, hydration and endurance required physical therapy and delayed my cancer surgery. I finally got to have my surgery on July 2. I was in the hospital for about a week and was released. I became listless and weak and unable to take care of myself properly. Turns out I had several pockets of infection at the surgery site. Spent two weeks in the hospital and two weeks in a rehab center. Was again discharged to go home alone over my objections. I should not be home alone but do have nurses to check on me two days a week. Since I thought I would only miss four months of work that losing income would not be a problem. However, it is now going on 8 months and finances are getting worrisome. Thank you for reading my story. Any help you can give will be appreciated.
