It Takes a Village to Educate Ryan!

Dear Village:
My name is Ryan M. Collier and I am a 6th grade student at Agassiz Elementary School, a Chicago Public School. My homeroom teacher, Ms. Fish, nominated me to represent the school community at National Youth Leadership Forum (NYLF): Explore STEM. NYLF Explore STEM is a unique learning experience for bright, forward-thinking middle school students who will evolve into our next generation of innovators, engineers, doctors, forensic scientists, mathematicians, and physicists. There are several locations to attend this program but I selected the historic Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia.
By attending this Explore STEM program, I will join other motivated students from around the country for an experiential career exploration program. Here are some program highlights of the week long experience. I am interested in a career in Forensic Science and is one of the program highlights.
Former NASA Astronauts
Keynote speakers will share their stories as well as the many fascinating experiences they have had overcoming the challenges of working in space.
Forensic Science Simulation
Process a staged crime scene; identify, collect, and examine finger prints, shoe prints, and tire tracks; and perform blood stain pattern analysis.
Engineering Simulations
Apply what you learn about engineering and robotics skills to design, build, and program a Mars rover using VEX IQ robotics. You will also test your engineering design skills while creating a floorplan using CAD software.
Medical Simulation
Diagnose and provide critical care, including conducting a physical exam, administering splints and slings, and controlling external hemorrhaging, in this high-stakes simulation.
Galaxy Labs
Dive deeply into forensic science, medicine, robotics programming, or civil engineering while working collaboratively with other students to complete specialized projects in your STEM strand of choice.
ACT Engage Assessment
Use this unique assessment to create a personalized success plan that will enable you to prepare for success in high school, college, and beyond.
As you can see, this will be a powerful experience, enabling me to interact with respected professionals in various fields while building relationships with students who will be my future colleagues.
Imagine if you have been given this opportunity for a life-changing experience when you were in school and were unable to participate for lack of funds.
My participation in the program depends on whether I can raise $1500 in sponsorships. My enrollment must be completed by Friday, May 4, 2018.
Village, your support for my sponsorship request would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance for your consideration.
Be blessed!
Sincerely,
Ryan M. Collier
