She is a retired public school teacher by profession and the organizer of the family’s nonprofit The Rev. Dr. Bennie R. Mitchell, Jr Institute of Human Rights & Civic Responsibility, Incorporated.
Benita R. Mitchell, Scholarship Organizer
Public school teacher with an Education Specialist degree in School Leadership from Cambridge College. In 2016, she oversaw the publishing of “Building on Faith: A Labor of Love”, a book chronicling the events of a congregation, under Rev. Mitchell’s leadership, renovating a historical building in Savannah, Georgia’s historic district for the use and benefit of the community.
BenDette R. Mitchell McCaskill, Business Administrator
HR/Office Administrator for a charter school possessing a Master’s degree from Clemson University in Human Resources Development. She is married to Dr. M. McCaskill and they are parents to three very active children. She plays the most essential part in the establishment and maintenance of the family’s nonprofit.

West Coast Manager for Sling Shot Intergalactic and film director. He holds a Bachelor’s of Fine Arts degree in Film, Video and Sound Design from Savannah College of Art and Design. In 2018, he finished his first feature documentary film, a decade long task, about the late Rev. Dr. Bennie R. Mitchell, Jr.’s life and legacy.
The Rev. Dr. Bennie R. Mitchell, Jr. Institute of Human Rights & Civic Responsibility, Inc. has awarded four scholarships to deserving high school seniors, and is looking forward to persevering with its efforts in assisting students with their continuing their education.
We are doing all we can and would like to continue with scholarships, creating art and providing knowledge.
