Somaliland COVID19 UK & Worldwide Appeal

The Sheffield based ISRAAC Charity makes this urgent appeal to the UK and international communities for humanitarian and medical support for front-line workers in their battle against the COVID-19 pandemic in the Republic of Somaliland. Our campaign has the backing of Ministers in Somaliland; we are co-ordinating our efforts with them and with other organisations around the world.
Somaliland has a fledgling healthcare system; it does not have the knowledge, experience or basic essential items to cope with the COVID-19 pandemic - currently there are 17 ventilators half of which are not working. Without urgent assistance and supplies there will be dire public health and humanitarian consequences for its four million inhabitants and the entire region of the Horn of Africa.
Somaliland a former British Somaliland Protectorate gained independence from Great Britain in June 1960. Since re-gaining its independence from its neighbour in 1991, the people of Somaliland have restored peace and built a stable and democratic government.
Overall the situation and crisis has become unpredictable and pressing. Somaliland hosts a large refugee population of Syrians, Yemenis, Ethiopians and Somalis. Many within these communities will die in a country without working ventilators, life-saving equipment, resources and the expertise to ensure that the staff in hospitals can SAVE LIVES.
Our aim is to urgently raise funds for the acquisition of items such as face masks, gloves, hand sanitizer, protective gowns, disinfectants, intravenous fluids and other basic hospital supplies and testing kits to send to Somaliland to deal with the unfolding COVID-19 pandemic.
This is what we desperately need.
As well as personal protective equipment, staff require training to better care for the sick in the event of major complications or respiratory failure and it’s our intention to send experts from the UK to provide this expertise.
We understand there is a worldwide shortage of these items, but we believe that there are enough people like you who want to help those in dire need and in crisis.
Your donation will enable us to purchase these supplies and provide expertise and services directly to Somaliland, using established distribution channels. Your generosity will help make a difference to the people of Somaliland and give them a chance against COVID-19.
