Isle of Wight Charity Cycle for German Shepherd Rescue South

Hi, I’m Chloe and on 25th July me and my friends are cycling 112km around the Isle of Wight to raise money for German Shepherd Rescue South!

Since October I’ve been volunteering with German Shepherd Rescue South, helping walk some of the amazing dogs they care for.

Spending time with them has shown me just how much love, time and effort goes into giving these dogs a second chance, and how much the charity relies on donations to keep going.

This summer, me and a group of friends are taking on the challenge of cycling around the Isle of Wight on 25th July to raise money for the rescue.

The full route is no small task, covering around 70 miles (112km) in one loop of the island. It includes quiet country lanes, long climbs, and some tough hills, especially along the southern coast, alongside some incredible views. Sections like the Military Road are known for being both stunning and seriously windy.

We actually attempted this ride last year just for fun, but after 70km we were forced to turn back when Storm Amy hit, with winds reaching 52mph. It quickly became unsafe to continue, so we had to call it, leaving us with unfinished business!

This time, we are coming back stronger, properly training, and determined to complete the full route while supporting a cause that means a lot to me.

German Shepherd Rescue South is a small, volunteer run charity that rescues and rehomes unwanted, abused and stray German Shepherds across the UK.

They receive no formal funding and rely entirely on the generosity of the public. Every donation goes towards essential costs like kennels, veterinary care, and rehoming efforts.

If you would like to learn more about the charity or the dogs they help, you can visit their website:
https://www.german-shepherd-rescue-hampshire.org.uk. You’ll see some of the dogs I’ve met while volunteering in the photos above, including Ruby, Freya, Verge and Lord.

All donations made through this page go directly to the charity.

I’ll also be sharing updates from our training rides and the big day itself, so you can follow along with the journey.

We are incredibly excited to take this on, and knowing it will help these dogs makes it so motivational!

Any donation would mean so much!

Thank you for supporting us and helping give these dogs the second chance they deserve!
