Island Pups and Dog Rescue New Group of pups

Donation protected
Hi, I’m Fina & I foster dogs. I live on the island of Great Exuma in the The Bahamas where I grew up. The people are extremely nice but, unfortunately, the culture is not dog friendly and this island is full of beautiful & loving dogs with beautiful spirits just begging for help. They are domesticated and know how to beg for food, how to be nice to strangers, & how to show love. Sadly, they don’t know how to get rid of fleas or ticks, how to get rid of Heartworm which they just about all get, or how to find enough food to fill their bellies and feed their never-ending puppies. I will say, these are some of the most adorable puppies you’ll ever see &, sadly, so many don’t survive even as their mothers try to protect them, feed them, & keep them sheltered and out of harm’s way. The ones that get picked up off the street or out of the bush & get a little help from Dr. Hanson, our local vet, go on to become wonderful buddies – full of life and full of love! They will follow you from room to room if you desire. They will protect you from the Mailman! They will proudly walk by your side or hang their heads out your car window happily making sure you are safe in your car from canine passersby, riff raff, or the like. They will be your companions forever more. It is truly amazing how these island dogs adapt to any climate and, as dogs do, form an unconditional loving bond with their owners.
The Bahamas is a Rabies-free country. It is not hard to adopt a dog or a cat from The Bahamas. Many people come to the island for a week’s stay & fall in love with the island. Some may make a canine friend. Others may just notice them on the side of the road or experience a stray begging or roaming where they are. Still others may just hear about the unfortunate position these dogs are in. No matter the circumstance, this is where we can work together & help these Potcakes. Potcake is the name given to these sweet dogs. They are becoming quite a popular breed. These dogs don’t have much of a voice. They don’t have many advocates, yet, they are such precious lives. Through the kindness of my heart, I started feeding these dogs and helping them where I could. In the process, I have teamed up with other dog-loving souls. Together, we are a small team with big hearts who take the time to pick these dogs up off the street, out of the bush & get them cleaned up and flea free. Our animal hospital is only part-time at the moment. I take these dogs to be spayed/neutered, dewormed, debugged, bathed, micro-chipped and vaccinated. We give them their Rabies shot and first couple vaccinations in order to travel. Meanwhile, if they are adults, we normally need to treat them for Heartworm. This is very expensive, as all of it is, and can take several weeks or several months depending on the vet availability and the health of the dog. I foster as many as I possibly can while taking care of my own at the same time.
Once a dog has been brought to good health, we look for homes and arrange travel to wherever love may lead them. Food, medical expenses, routine preventative care, Heartworm treatment, outside foster care, and travel is all at our expense. Each dog and each puppy is a life worth saving. With help from the community through this fundraising, your help, help from those you share this with, we can save beautiful souls. We are grateful for each and every donation no matter the amount and we thank you for sharing and passing the word to anyone who might be looking for a sweet companion that we may have a match.
