Centre of Culture and Civilisation is an organization based in Cambridge, UK with the head office located in Birmingham. Its purpose is to educate the British public about Islam and the contributions of Islamic civilisations to mainstream society as we know today. The objective is to shift opinions about the religion to a more positive stance or, at the very least, neutral as well as to counteract the constant misrepresentation of the faith by the media, public figures and the likes. In other words, our mission is to remove the irrational fear that exist in the west about Islam and Muslims.
This project is a partnership between a few capable members of the dawah community with extensive experience in the field of dawah. Among these there are Anaximenis Abu Ibraheem Silva, a Portuguese revert brother and student at the Islamic University of Madina; Sheikh Mohammad Tarawneh, member of the Fatwa Council at London Islamic Cultural Centre and student of Sheikh Omar Batoosh; and Chris Skellorn, English revert brother, former EDL member and currently involved in dawah in social media and on the ground.
How do we plan to carry out the project? By providing enough tools to the entirety of the community, both Muslims and non-Muslims, so that they are able to formulate opinions based on trustworthy information. We want to prevent ignorant narratives from taking centre stage while potentially affecting the wellbeing of Muslims and threatening our future in western countries.
Our centre is involved in the research and distribution of content surrounding Islam, misconceptions and the contributions of the faith in the development of culture and civilisations. We work to engage with different sectors of society, from public servants to students at university.
Our dedication is to protect people’s right to be and live as Muslim without fear of discrimination, while also encouraging cordial and respectful relations with the rest of society by opening doors for meaningful discussions to take place. Raising awareness is the way to combat all forms of racism and discrimination that exists.
We are already working on having the project ready soon. However, there are immediate expenses that require to be covered, and more funds are also needed for us to have the full project running by later this year. We are now appealing to the community to contribute to this amazing project by making dua and also donating. No amount is too little, and the reward with Allah is indeed far greater.
