Good day and thank you for taking the time to read Islas story . My name is Megan , the mother to my beautiful daughter Isla . My daughter was diagnosed with a rare and complex Brain Tumour back in March 2022. She had severe hydrocephalus at the point of diagnosis and she was in a critical life threatening situation. On the day of 23rd March 2022 she was rushed by ambulance to have emergency brain surgery in Southampton general hospital to save her life. This was performed by an amazing neurosurgeon. Thankfully she miraculously survived and was in intensive care for a number of days. Where she had a drain fitted in her head to expel excess spinal fluid from the hydrocephalus. She was unresponsive for a couple of days and on a feeding tube. She had to have an IV of morphine which caused her hallucinations as it was a strong dose and she was only 8 at the time. My daughter was then transferred to a ward where she continued recovering. Following on from this my daughter has now undergone two more brain surgeries and a course of proton beam radiotherapy to stunt the growth of the active tumour. There has been many complications and repercussions of the surgery. Her pituitary gland is injured and now no longer works . Her hypothalamus again is affected and now she has severe hyperphagia. Which causes excessive hunger and an uncontrollable appetite. She is also growth hormone deficient and she cannot grow without the help of growth hormones. Islas weight since being diagnosed has increased dramatically even with her being on a strict diet she now has a bmi of 42. This is a non curable , life limiting and threatening condition. It causes premature death is most cases. I don’t know what the future holds for Islas health or her life expectancy. Her health is declining every day. We don’t have a large family support network. We don’t live nearby to them either. Im a single parent and Isla relies solely on myself for all of her care and love and support. I’ve created this page to raise awareness for children like Isla suffering from craniopharyngioma and how the disease can destroy lives . If you can relate to Isla’s story or my own as a mother and you want to help her in any way you can we would be so grateful. She wants to see Disneyland and hopefully Lapland , she also would love to see her favourite artists Billie Eilish and Ariana Grande in concert , these would be her main wishes. My wish as a mother is to see a smile on my daughters face and so she can embrace happiness. Thankyou for reading our story . Blessings to all ❤️
