Isla Hayes

On October 6, 2015, my wife, Traci, and I were evacuated on a jet from Juneau, Alaska to Seattle, WA because of complications during her pregnancy. She had been diagnosed with HELLP, a severe pre eclampsia syndrome in pregnancy. Her blood pressure was high with platelets being incredibly low and increasing liver pain. The baby's placenta was failing and there was a high risk that either Traci or baby Isla wouldn't make it.

Once we made the journey to Swedish Medical Center in Seattle, Traci's blood pressure took a crash course and she was immediately wheeled into the OR, pending a C-section. Fortunately, the doctors were able to stabilize the situation, correct a low blood pressure, and instead of an emergency C-section, they started on the induction process. It was a very long and slow couple of days until Isla came to greet us.

Isla Hayes was born on October 8th at 6:16 pm weighing 2lbs 5.4 oz and 14 inches long. She has a strong and wonderful spirit for only being in gestation for 30 weeks before she was born. I am so happy both are still with us here on earth, and looking forward to the day where we can all be together at home.

Traci and I both work with the State of Alaska and have good Health Insurance, however the lodging and food expenses are incredibly high for our income. Isla needs to remain in the hospital for at least 8 to 10 more weeks, and needs the support from her mommy close to her. The thought of leaving Isla hundreds of miles away is terrifying, so Traci will stay in Seattle while Isla continues to grow and develop. Please help us raise funds to keep Traci close to our girl while she remains in Seattle's Swedish First Hill Campus NICU for special care.
