Isidora Beats Cancer

Update posted September 30, 2021 - PLEASE SHARE

Isidora is vibrant, fiesty 7 year old who learned to both skate and ski this past winter. By the beginning of April, she was complaining that her left leg hurt. After 10 days of moderate pain, an X-ray was done that showed a large mass in her left thigh bone (femur) indicative of aggressive bone cancer (osteosarcoma). We spent weeks going in and out of hospitals for further tests, a biopsy, and eventually, the beginning of chemotherapy on May 7. She turned 7 years old on May 1.

This disease is an extremely rare cancer in all populations, and even more rare in a child under 10 years old. She seems to be an anomaly in this regard. The tests also found multiple lesions on her lungs, worsening the prognosis and deeming her diagnosis metastatic osteosarcoma.

Seeing as how her cancer is aggressive, we have taken an aggressive, integrative approach to fighting it. We have found it impossible to rely only on conventional treatment, seeing as how it doesn't work in most cases against this particular cancer. I'm intentionally not going into the details of the prognosis or cancer staging because it's not something I want to focus or dwell on. I am committed to the solution and not the problem. However, it's a quick Google search of the diagnosis for further details.

Isidora has a carefully designed nutrition program to help strengthen her body for chemo, help detox the cancer die-off cells, and synergize with the chemo drugs to kill cancer. Twice a month, she goes for loco-regional hyperthermia, which places a probe on top of her chest to sensitize the lung lesions to chemotherapy and help the chemo work better against these tough-to-treat cancer cells. There are only four of these types of instruments in Canada, and we are very lucky that there is one in KW. In other parts of the world, such as Germany, these tools are used as part of the conventional protocol.

Additionally, she is going to almost daily appointments to assist her body in healing itself. She utilizes ozone therapy, neuroptimal feedback (brain training), bio-resonance scanning, magnetic resonance stimulation (PEMF) therapy, red light therapy, and physiotherapy. There is a team of practitioners who are all in our corner helping her, and a community of family and friends that have rallied to help.

After a rough start, she is now handling chemotherapy like a champ and recovering well and quickly. We have observed the horrific effects of chemotherapy without most of these additional, integrative methods. We were amazed to watch the complete turnaround in how she handled it once all of these therapies were fully implemented. As a result, we need to continue doing all of the above and would greatly benefit from donations to sustain this for the next year at least (and possibly longer).

Most of the time, she is her happy, silly self and loves riding her bicycle, both on our street and in the hospital hallways. She loves keeping busy doing crafts and we know she's happy and pain-free when she's drawing, making bracelets and singing songs she's made up.

In a few weeks, she will undergo surgery to remove the large mass in her leg and to reconstruct the bone. The plan right now is for a "limb-saving" surgery. Recovery is extensive, and she won't be able to put full weight in her leg (or walk without assistance) for at least 3 months. The chemotherapy will continue shortly after the surgery and continue for 4-5 months afterwards.

In the meantime, we focus on the solutions, keeping her joyful every day, and helping her body heal holistically. We know that many people want to help, so I have created this page as a means for that. Please do not feel obligated to donate, but if you are in a position of abundance and would like to share, know that it will go directly to her integrative care. And it will help her win.

We are grateful for the outpouring of love, thoughts and prayers and will continue to update you on our journey this next year.

With love,

Kristina (Mama)
