HELP LEGENDARY ACTING TEACHER

Donation protected
Edward Morehouse, a WWII veteran, turned 90 years old this past November and has taught acting at HB Studios in NYC for over 57 years. Mr. Morehouse, “Eddie” to his close friends is a respected teacher, actor and director to the legions in the theatre community who know him. It is almost impossible to go anywhere in New York without hearing someone call his name. He could be seen traveling all over the city on the bus and though he still teaches as much as possible, a recent health set-back left him temporarily incapacitated. Without his teaching income he is now in desperate need of assistance with basic expenses like food, medicine and utilities. Teaching has been the great love of his life for which he has been very grateful, but his career did not offer many of the benefits seniors depend upon in their later years.

We are a group of former students appealing to any of the thousands of aspiring or established actors who studied with Ed Morehouse or any of you who have enjoyed an evening in the theatre.  Would you consider even a small gift to help this remarkable man at a difficult time in his life? He is extremely deserving of your generosity, as he shared so freely all his talent with those who were fortunate enough to study with him. It is his fervent desire to stay in the classroom as long as he is able. Without teaching he has grown despondent and terribly worried as his situation has become dire.

My name is James Umphlett and I met Eddie when I first studied with him in 1971.We have been friends ever since. I met my wife in his class, and we are not the only couple who found each other through him. Perhaps you will be inspired to give because a teacher like Eddie has made a special impact in your life. All monies collected will go directly to meet his needs and hopefully give him peace of mind along with the will to get back to the classroom. Eddie’s social security only covers his rent and he is not scheduled to teach again until January. His health has improved and he still has so much to offer.  It is our sincere hope that we can together find a way for him to go on with respect and dignity.
