Isaiah Lorenzo's Assault Recovery

Dear friends, family, and members of the comedy community who we have yet to meet:


Recently, our dear friend, beloved comedian Isaiah Lorenzo, was attacked and viciously assaulted right in front of me (Betsy). 


As people hung out and prepared to head home after a comedy show, the assaulter suddenly approached Isaiah as he was sitting down just hanging out, apropos of nothing. After a brief moment of an exchange in which the assaulter angrily tried to instigate an argument with Isaiah, who simply deflected the harsh words in an attempt to dismiss the hostility, he held Isaiah down on the couch with one hand while he brutally attacked his face and head repeatedly as Isaiah tried to escape, totally shocked and taken unaware and totally defenseless against this unprovoked attack from a much larger and more physically powerful person. The attacker focused his violent efforts on Isaiah’s left eye, which friends of Isaiah may already be aware has issues as is. (His endearingly named “googly eye”.)  

I am going to be forever traumatized simply from witnessing the attack and the ensuing damage to our friend, particularly his eye. Isaiah was left in a shocking and gruesome state.  


Isaiah was rushed to the hospital, as his eye and vision hung in the balance and he wondered if his eye had already come unattached. 


An overnight in the ER (not covered by insurance of course) was also required, as well as an urgent transmission to a specialist the next morning. Several follow up visits will also be required. The end result financially will be a colossal amount of medical debt, not yet known. On top of the debt, Isaiah’s ability to work has been compromised for who knows how long. 


In terms of the future of Isaiah’s eye / vision, we hope and pray for the best but Isaiah’s retina (which as mentioned before was already in a compromised state) could still come unattached at any point. He may end up with a significant loss of vision.


On top of the physical damage and medical debt that has already been inflicted on Isaiah, the emotional trauma that Isaiah faces will be an ongoing battle and I really hope we can all rally around him to financially help him as he seeks mental health care. 


This happened after a comedy show, which Isaiah attended in pursuit of his dreams and career. It was totally unprovoked, and the assailant is someone totally unknown to Isaiah, whom he had only met in passing that fateful night. 


This could have happened to any of us, especially if it could happen to our sweet charming, gentle, peaceful and beloved friend Isaiah. 


Consider doing whatever you can to help us reach our financial goal, which very well may not even cover the debt Isaiah is being crushed by.
