Isabel's Life Fund

Close your eyes and imagine that you are with your favorite person, or friends, or family or more sharing a moment of fun, laughs and camaraderie in your favorite place, or the restaurant around the corner, or some dream location…

Drink it in. Enjoy the moment to the fullest. Savor the personal satisfaction. And then consider paying it forward, creating good karma or any other selfless motivation you might find to help someone in need whose life you can impact profoundly as well as the lives of her family.

It’s with profound sadness that I need to tell you Isabel’s story. A mother of four, ages one and a half to twelve, suffered a serious stroke this past September. The amazing news is that this 33 year old survived; the difficult and overwhelming news is that her life has changed dramatically forever.

She spent a month in the hospital and is still undergoing serious therapy to regain full speech and the use of her right side – arm and leg. She is still not back to work (that’s eight months without a pay check) and is struggling to handle the demands of her family life on her own. Thanks to a phenomenally devoted husband and extremely close siblings and parents, everyone is pitching in to keep things afloat.

The medical bills are daunting and daily therapy/rehabilitation is necessary if she is going to make progress on being as close to fully independent as possible. Her kids Eddie, Nicole, Shaila and Alice are all trying to help as well, but the financial burden of an incident of this nature is extraordinary, particularly because Isabel does not have health insurance.

Isabel is one of the hardest working, earnest, clean living, kind and caring individuals I know. She deserves better and we can help. If you could find it in your heart to donate something to ease the cost of Isabel’s recovery and medical bills, her family would be eternally grateful.

In addition to any online funding you are able to give, I am going to organize a fund raiser for Isabel at my restaurant – Cuper, in DUMBO, Brooklyn. I would be delighted to have you join us there so we can celebrate her courage and perseverance. Please accept my eternal gratitude for your support of Isabel and her family.
