Isabella – Our Kinder Surprise!

Help our precious Isabella achieve her dream of travelling to WA’s Rottnest Island to meet the Quokka’s with her family.

This is the story of Isabella…….

In Isabella’s 11 years she has endured more than most people would in a lifetime. She was born with multiple life-threatening medical conditions including.

· Oesophageal Atresia - Abnormal connections between her oesophagus and trachea, and between her oesophagus and stomach; an airway which collapses; and a congenital heart defect. 60 general anaesthetics required to date.

· Idiopathic Ketotic Hypoglycaemia (metabolic disease) requiring a stomach peg, life-sustaining medication daily, and regular hospitalisation.

· Major episodes of acute, sudden onset movement disorder in May 2018 (3 months), relapse in early 2019, and recurrence in April of 2021 (currently ongoing). Some episodes have prevented her from walking and needing full assistance with all activities of daily living.

One of Isabella and her family’s greatest challenges is trying to maintain stability and joy in life. Ongoing hospital admissions and specialist appointments mean many missed school days for Isabella and work days for her amazing parents. The resulting anxiety and social isolation for this beautiful family is heartbreaking.

In this last week alone Isabella has been hospitalised for an infection in her stomach and fistula formation, due to the removal of her PEG two weeks ago. This last hospitalisation has devastated this little girl as she has now been told that she can’t eat for the next 6 weeks and is being fed through her vein. She is undergoing twice weekly operations to change her dressing and will need to stay in hospital for the next 6 weeks.

Living one day at a time is the norm for Isabella and her family. Their strength, resilience and love seem to know no bounds. Isabella is lovingly known as her family’s ‘Kinder Surprise’ as they say they never know what you are going to get!

A Go Fund Me page has been set up so that Isabella can be granted her wish of being able to meet the Quokkas of Rottnest Island in WA.
