Isabel Day & 3 Grandchildren Need a Family Home
Donation protected
Hi! My name is Pauline Day and I am fundraising for my mom, Isabel Day and for my nieces and nephew, Isabel's grandchildren, Russel, Jolene and Julieann Linklater. We survived the fire in our building at 240 Quail Ridge Road that happened on Friday, May 19th at 7:00 pm. I live in the next building and I saw smoke and called Granny and the kids to get out of the building. They came out safely but lost everything that was not salvageable. We were able to go into the building to look around, but the contents were wet, mouldy and smelled of smoke. The building was also robbed and my mom lost her wedding rings and sentimental jewelry. We made a police report as well. We also did not have rental insurance. Russel was able to get half of his Tams Taekwondo uniform and his black belt. The girls were able to get their mementos from their mother and father that passed away. In terms of our financial health, that was exhausted by my brother Darrell Beardy's funeral. He passed away on March 9, 2023. He also lived with my mom and the kids at Quail Ridge Road.
With the funds that we would receive, we would like to create a safe, comfortable home for Granny and the kids.
- This would include replacing furnishings but also all the things we have lost that we have not yet realized.
- With your help, we would be able to have a down payment for a 3-bedroom house in the St. James area of Winnipeg. It would need to be one level bungalow as Granny cannot do stairs very well physically.
- Russel and the girls need a safe place to settle and grieve the loss that they have experienced.
We have time to heal, and to work towards creating a loving home. Please help us.
Since the night of the fire, Granny & Kids have been staying in hotels. At present, we have been spending what savings we had on accommodation and meals for four which can be very expensive. The kids on a regular day, usually enjoy Grannies' homemade soup at least 4 times a week. They are not partial to hotels or fast food. Not sure where Granny and the kids will go, everything is day by day. Ideally, we would like to get into a house, but let us know with your donation if you would like to support us with the daily costs of living. E.g. Gas, Bus tickets, Groceries, Accommodation, Cell phone bills, Autopac, and Taekwondo fees.
