Our brother Isaac was diagnosed with glioblastoma multiforme, a type of terminal brain cancer, in October 2018. While most people who receive this diagnosis survive a year or less, Isaac has defied the odds, even being able to continue working until recently when vision problems made it necessary to go on disability. He has had surgeries, radiation, and ongoing chemotherapy, some of which having debilitating side effects. And yet, with his family and community's support, Isaac has maintained a positive attitude. He continues to be a loving husband to his wife Gretchen and a supportive father to their special needs son, Eli.

Since his diagnosis, Isaac has published two novels and a novella in an anthology, and has recently become a spokesperson for the American Cancer Society's medical transportation program.

His rallying cry is "Fuck Cancer! Fuck Despair!"
