Isaac Kimmel's Fight SMA Fund
Donation protected
On Wendsday December 3, 2014, my nephew, Isaac Kimmel, was diagnosed with SMA Type 1 at 6 months old. SMA (spinal muscular atrophy) is a disease that robs people of physical strength by affecting the motor nerve cells in the spinal cord, taking away the ability to walk, eat, or breathe. It is the number one genetic cause of death for infants. SMA affects approximately 1 in 10,000 babies, and about 1 in every 50 Americans is a genetic carrier. There is currently no cure or approved treatment for SMA.
Isaac will have difficulty performing the basic functions of life, like breathing and swallowing. He will need a lot of medical care and equipment to assit him with these basic functions. In the future, my sister and brother-in-law may also need to buy a van and an accesible house to accomodate all the equipment he will need. They will also have to frequently travel to and from Indianapolis and Chicago for Isaac's medical care. We are starting this fund to help them with all the costs they will be faced with as they fight this disease.
SMA does not affect a person’s ability to think, learn, and build relationships with others. We will love and cherish Isaac everyday. He is a very special little boy and a blessing to our lives. Thank you for your support!
