Irreplaceable Jules and Joe
Donation protected
Hi, my name is Jack and I'm setting up this GoFundMe for Jules and Joe. If you have any questions about donations or how GFM works, please let me know.
From Joe:
In August, we discovered Jules had a large tumor of unknown origin that had developed in her L2 vertebrae and had burst out into the surrounding tissue. After a battery of tests we were still unable to determine the type of tumor, but they determined that it was growing and needed to be removed regardless. On October 12, both the tumor and L2 vertebra were removed completely, and the surrounding 4 vertebrae were fused together for support. A rib was used for the bone graft to replace the missing vertebra in Jules’ spine. As far as we know we beat the prospect of prolonged cancer, but the process was incredibly traumatic on her body. She needs 24/7 care because mobility is limited to barely being able to turn to the side in bed and taking a few steps with a walker. The pain reaches a 9 or 10 without constant pain medications. We have been deeply moved by the outpouring of assistance and are greatly humbled, but need to ask for more help to make it through a prolonged recovery.
Jules is on a medical leave of absence from work, but does not qualify for paid leave because of still being in the first 12 months at her new job. The leave lasts until mid Feb, and in the meantime the hospital has set Jules up with regular at-home visits from physical therapists, nurses, and home health aids. Mostly the funds will be used for our rent which is ~2.2k per month, as well as outstanding medical bills, medical devices and hygienic care.
Thank you!
