Hello Everyone!
It's that time again California Ironman 70.3 in Oceanside, CA. I compete or shall I say I try to finish this event every year in honor of all the Challenged Athletes as well as my late father Reno Raymond Renaldo, Jr.
As you might or might not know, I competed in my very first triathlon March 28, 2015 that event was Oceanside, CA Ironman 70.3 race. It was a lifelong goal that I wanted achieved and say I finished. I was so satisfied when it was over I vowed I would never do it again.
However, the day of the race and a ton of emotions were going through me and as mentioned, I swore off Ironman for life. At the last stretch of the race, my family and friends stood there cheering me on and one of the most iconic figures was also present - my Dad. This meant a whole lot to me and I was proud to have all my friends and family there to cheer me on at the finish. What you might not know however, that night just three hours after my father and I hugged at the finish line my dad suffered a major stroke that ultimately took his life May 1st, 2015. It was a tough loss for my family, but I was broken. Now, I have made a new vow that I want to share and allow you to become a part of. I not just race for the Challenged Athletes Foundation every year but I know race in my father's honor. My promise to my father before he passed, for which I don't know if he even heard me but I told him I will honor him in all I do and to compete in 63 triathlons/ironman races for each year he lived.
I will be competing in Oceanside, CA in the California Ironman 70.3 once again this year in honor of all the Challenge Athletes most who have served this great nation of ours as well as for my HERO my Dad. My dad has been a source of inspiration to me in so many ways as well as all the wounded soldiers (that I have met every year plus I get to race along side of them) that have sacrificed for our great country. I again have joined forces with Team Operation Rebound, which supports the Challenged Athletes Foundation. All monies raised will be donated and will further their cause to assist Wounded Warriors in their feat to become athletes once again.
