Ironman 70.3 Weymouth 2022 in aid of CALM
For all of you that don’t know me, my name is Oscar Taber and I'm raising money in aid of The Campaign Against Living Miserably (CALM) a leading movement against suicide. Every week 125 people in the UK take their own lives. And 75% of all UK suicides are male. CALM exists to change this.
Over the last 18 months during this pandemic, I have really struggled with my mental health. Just generally feeling lost with life and at times really not in a good place.
Around September this year, I really hit a low point but this inspired to make a change in my life. I made a promise to myself that I would get better and to prove to myself that I can achieve things. I have been amazingly fortunate to have a support network around me who kept me going, kept pushing me forward and allowed me to talk about what’s going on between my ears.
I have decided to challenge myself to compete in the 2022 Ironman 70.3 Weymouth Triathlon. This includes a 1.9KM Swim, a 90KM Ride and to top it off a half marathon at the end.
This is by far the most difficult challenge I have ever set myself. However, I am motivated and inspired to support my chosen charity who do so much to support people with mental health troubles.
Mental health and mens mental health is a serious issue, and one I believe is not spoken about as much as it should. This is why the charity I have chosen is so important to me. To show to everyone that is okay to feel how you feel and that it’s okay to talk.
The Campaign Against Living Miserably (CALM) is leading a movement against suicide. Every week 125 people in the UK take their own lives. And 75% of all UK suicides are male. CALM exists to change this.
I understand that this is a difficult time for everyone, both mentally and financially. I would be incredibly grateful if you could give as much or as little as you can or even to just share my appeal to help break the stigma of mental health and start the conversation.
Thank you so much to everyone who takes time out of their day to read and support my journey. As much as this is personal endeavour, it’s far from just myself.
Thank you everyone and let’s smash this out the park.
Oscar.
