Iron Plaid Robotics Team

Dear Friends,
I am a member of Iron Plaid at Duchesne Academy of the Sacred Heart and a member of Duchesne’s Iron Plaid Robotics team, one of the United States’ only all-girl robotics teams.

Iron Plaid participates in FIRST Robotics Competition (FRC), the highest level of high school robotics. Each year, we receive a set of guidelines for a new game at the beginning of January. From that first day, our team has 6 weeks to build a competitive robot that follows game guidelines. Iron Plaid members put in on average at least 22 hours per week designing, engineering, building, and perfecting our robot. We use our knowledge of programming, CAD, and mechanical equipment to develop a robot that can win! Our accomplishments include:
·Qualifying for and competing in the World Championships four times
· Winning major awards by General Motors and Underwriters Laboratories for engineering, design, and safety
· Appearing on ABC 13 and Fox News
· Having the Mayor of Houston declare an “Iron Plaid Day”

Here at Iron Plaid, we are responsible for all parts of the process to make our team successful: including planning, financing, and marketing - teaching us valuable real-world business skills. -Power Plaid ($5,000+) allows us to register for a single competition

- I-Sponsor ($2,500+) supplies us with hand-tools and other electronics

- Robo Wrangler ($1,000+) supplies us with most raw materials and specific parts

- AI Ally ($75 and Under) goes toward any of Iron Plaid’s expenses
