For the love of knitting....
A dream came true in 1999 when Deborah Smith the owner of the Iron Horse opened her store first in Sherborn Massachusetts followed by a move to Natick Massachusetts in 2009.. It grew to incorporate a community of local artisans to showcase and bring their one of a kind hand crafted art to the community.
Everyone who ever set foot in the storefront- would agree that it was always more than just a local yarn store- it was a place of community. Between the extensive knitting classes, the open knit-a-longs and the wonderful assortment of yarn, needles and other knitting, crocheting, felt making, weaving and handspining accessories and equipment it was a gathering place. The large table with its 10 chairs around it was often a place that new and old techniques were learned, and taught, stories were told and most importantly laughter was shared.
In the early morning hours of July 22nd, 2019 an eight alarm fire destroyed the store and all of its contents. In a matter of several hours those dreams of “more than a yarn store” were lost. As a community of knitters and crafts people, we have all felt the devastating loss that Deborah and her husband Skip have felt. It has been hard to put into words just what we have all been feeling.
At first the thought of rebuilding seemed so hard to fathom and almost impossible. “Out of the ashes- the phoenix rises”- stronger and full of hope. As Deborah and Skip weed through the insurance paperwork and multitude of other tasks behind the scenes - we as a community stand strong to support them. Together we can rebuild- so that we may once again enjoy times around the “long table” laughing, learning and sharing stories all the while our fingers create beautiful pieces of art.
For the love of knitting – please help us raise money to help the “Iron Horse” rebuild. (Deborah and Skip would never ask- so we are asking on their behalf.)
Thank you for your generosity from the bottom of our hearts!
