Cam "Iron Cam" Rowick. The most overachieving-but-humble man we have ever had the fortune of meeting. Lawyer, doctor, Iron Man, husband, son, brother, uncle and beautiful friend to many. When Cam passed away from brain cancer in June 2022, the lives of all those who loved Cam were shattered. In December 2022, Cam's family and friends will be honouring one of Cam's many achievements in life, by competing in the Busselton Half Iron Man. Our relay teams will be competing to fundraise money for the Cure Brain Cancer Foundation, in the hope of improving survival rates for other young people like Cam.
Additionally, for those who haven’t quite mustered up the will to compete in the Half Iron Man, there will be the inaugural Iron Cam half marathon on Saturday the 17th of December. This run will be located at Port Beach, one of Cam’s favourite running spots, and will begin at 6am to avoid the summer heat. While we miss him deeply, we know he would be delighted to see family and friends exercising together, then gathering for a post-run picnic.
PS - if the half marathon is too much, then feel free to run the 5km and 10km loops!
More information about the Cure Brain Cancer Foundation: As brain cancer is a rare disease, there has been limited investment in finding a cure and survival rates have not changed much in 30 years. Brain cancer kills more children in Australia than any other disease and more people under 40 than any other cancer. Cure Brain Cancer Foundation focuses on investment in research, advocacy and awareness activities which will achieve our mission of increasing 5 year survival rates to 50% by 2023.
