IRC HOME - HELP A REFUGEE FAMILY

Donation protected
Hello Friends and Family,

We are raising funds to help welcome a refugee family from Afghanistan to the SF Bay Area as part of the International Rescue Committee (IRC) resettlement program. Your donation to this page will help us set up the family's apartment.

How your donation will help
We are working directly with the IRC Housing Outreach Mentorship & Education (HOME) Program. Our HOME team has just been matched with a family who will be arriving in Oakland this week (7/17/17), and we have a few weeks to set up their new apartment in Concord.

As some of you know, our HOME team will be mentoring the family for 6 months, helping them to get acclimated to the US and their new lives in Concord, with the ultimate goal of helping them become self sufficient.

Apartment set up is underway now
During the next two weeks the family will be living with a close family friend in Concord while the IRC works to locate them an apartment. Our volunteer team is working to set up their new home including newly purchased items such as a couch, beds, and bedding for all family members, as well as used household items in good condition. Click the link HERE to learn what items we need.

If you want to donate used items on our list - please message us - we are collecting items in Tracey's garage, or asking people to hold the items for us until "move in day".  We will keep you updated on the date, but the apartment should be available in early August.

A little background on the refugee family
We just learned that we have been matched to a family of five: mom, dad, and kids aged 7, 5, and 1. They do not speak English and we know that the dad worked as a driver, most likely for the US Armed Forces in Afghanistan. The family is in immediate danger in their own country and are being granted resettlement in the United States. Our fundraising efforts are critical now in order to furnish their apartment.

We hope you can support us in this effort to raise the money to furnish the family's apartment and greatly appreciate any contribution you can make on this page.

Thank you for helping us help this refugee family from harm to a new home in our community!

Audrey, Tracey, Dianne, Diane, and Rita
