Ipswich Rowing Gig
Donation protected
Ipswich Rowing Club would like to obtain a traditional East Coast rowing gig to open up access to the beautiful River Orwell to more people, in particular those that would prefer not to choose a lightweight sliding-seat rowing boat. These boats are made by the Pioneer Trust, a charity that supports apprenticeships.
Recent times have shown the value of fresh air and gentle exercise, particularly to those of us later in life, and a comfortable, stable rowing boat offers an ideal way to achieve this, whilst enjoying the splendour of our AONB Heritage Coastline.
Additionally for those of us with a racing enthusiasm the East Coast Harker's Yard gig will give us the opportunity of attending regular races with our sister clubs throughout the Essex coast where an established fleet of over 22 of these boats already exists.
We need funds to purchase both the boat (£12,500) and a purpose made storage platform (£7,500) in order to keep the vessel by our clubhouse and launch it in central Ipswich.
