High School Programmers Dream !
Help these dominican programmers to participate for the first time in the world programming contest IOI 2015.
The International Olympiads in Informatics (IOI) is the most prestigious international programming competition for high school students. With over 84 participating countries and patronized by UNESCO, the IOI's primary goals are to (a) to stimulate interest in computing science and (b) bring together exceptionally talented pupils from various countries and to have them share scientific and cultural experiences.
Although the IOI was first organized in 1989, it is in this year that the Dominican Republic is able to compete for the first time. Through the Dominican Olympiads in Informatics (ODI), we are grateful to have discovered:
Alejandra (Age 15)
and Manuel David (Age 14)
Three exceptionally talented high school students with an excess of passion and appreciation for the beauty of computing programming. Since 2014 they have been preparing themselves for this unique opportunity - to be part of the new emerging global computing leaders community.
The fact that we are able to find extremely talented young people in our country makes us really happy and proud, specially because the Dominican Republic is ranked as 138/144 on the "Quality of primary education" index, according to the World Economic Forum.
The participation in this olympiad will benefit the dominican society in several ways. On one hand, it will inspire more of the dominican youth, giving hope and proof that their dreams may become a reality. Further, it will draw the attention to the computing discipline to young people. With enough motivated students, the Dominican economy could in the near future grow, expand, diversity and strenghten itself, reducing by such the brain drain that hinders economic growth in developing nations.
Please help the dreams Alejandra, Michael and Manuel David become a reality by donating to this campaign. The funding is needed only for traveling expenses. Fortunately all other expenses are covered by Kazakhstan, this year hosting country. We need your support to develop and spread awareness of the computing discipline in the Dominican Republic!
We thank you so much for your consideration!
