The 3rd is fundraising to get our first of its kind, revolutionary community coworking space open. The space is part of the downtown Columbia lakefront revitalization and we're excited to bring community back to the heart of Columbia: the lakefront.
We set a capital campaign goal of $350k in August of 2020 and we reached it this January! As we all know costs have gone up exponentially and from construction to supplies to employees (all paid at a minimum of $15/hr) we have a $150k deficit that we need to raise by June 1st.
By supporting this one-of-a-kind space you are supporting the creation of a model for economic development and social justice that will repeatable on a national level.
These funds will be used to:
- Build out our podcasting room (the first public podcasting space available in Howard County)
- Build out our larger cafe space
- Build out our conference rooms including our tech training room which will support level one certifications in various infrastructure related work (ex. fiber splicing, security cameras)
- Lock in suppliers. We are committed to using local, POC suppliers for our food and supplies.
- Hire our workforce. We are working with the Office of Aging to recruit from our rich and diverse retired population and our Office of Youth Workforce Development to hire youth in our community that have been underserved.
