Hello, I'm Frankie Mcintosh. I am a recent graduate from the University of Michigan-Flint with a degree in criminal justice sociology minor in computer science. Throughout my college career, I was an outstanding student leader. My philosophy of life is change begins with what you pour into it.

 

During 2020-2021, I had the opportunity to be an intern for the What's Up Downtown Flint placemaking project, which has influenced my perception of community engagement. As an intern, I put my education/knowledge to work and managed three significant projects (Porchfest, Pop-Up Poetry, and Black-owned business Fair). As a result, I gained experience in developing and implementing programs in public spaces and shaping community identity. This opportunity allowed me to grow as a placemaker, a poet, and a community advocate. I have been honored to work with various Flint community organizations, which inspired me to build Mifullness (my-fullness) poetry organization. This organization facilitates poetry and mindfulness workshops with youth across Flint and Genesee county.

 

It is my goal to expand my professional experience in placemaking. I am most passionate about this field, and I had to seize this lifetime opportunity since I have limited resources and opportunities locally.

 

The Placemaking Mastery Program: Portland will allow emerging professional placemakers like myself to learn the fundamental skills and concepts in a creative dynamic city. This program will be held from August 17-21 in Portland, Oregon, which is famously one of the nation's most human-scaled, innovative, and livable places. The Placemaking Mastery program will take me to the next level of impact, learning different concepts of Neighborhood Identity and Culture, Gentrification Issues, Placekeeping, and Creative Economy.

 

My career goals are at an all-time high, and I don't want this opportunity to be a financial burden for me as a recent graduate. I am raising 3,000 dollars for the cost of attendance.
