Hi everyone,
My name is Lina. Some of you know me as the Ukrainian-Vietnamese girl who adores working with children, others simply as a friend or a community member. Today, I am reaching out with a heart full of hope and untethered vulnerability as I share my story and ask for your support in this great time of need.
I took a leap of faith and relocated from California to North Carolina to attend the prestigious Duke University School of Nursing. It hasn't been easy; I had to quickly adapt to this new environment and learn to balance the vigorous academic workload with two jobs and a new culture. Still, not a day goes by that I am not extremely grateful for the decision I made.
Recently, due to unexpected funding cuts, my scholarship (my sole source of financial aid) was discontinued. My family and I are unable to cover the full cost of the program, which totals $120,000. Given the current policies, as a solo immigrant, I have faced additional challenges. It has become nearly impossible for me to obtain a work permit, preventing me from securing higher-paying jobs as well as qualifying for student loans.
My journey towards becoming the best nurse I could be means everything to me, and I simply cannot give it up halfway. I am launching this fundraiser to help me cover the cost of my third semester. As someone who has always prided herself on standing on her own, though it is hard to admit, I cannot do this alone. However, I truly believe that with your support, I can make it through and eventually become the nurse by a child’s bedside who reminds them they’re loved, safe, and not alone.
Thank you for being part of this journey.
With love and gratitude,
Lina
