Hello Everyone!
This summer, I was offered an EXTRAORDINARY opportunity to study and train for the Black Arts Theater Intensive at the Stella Adler Studio of Acting. I am elated to participate in this program and continue to hone my storytelling skills!
A bit of Background Information about the Intensive:
It's a five-week intensive exploring the rich history of Black theater tradition, the emergence of the Black Arts movement, and highlighting key historical moments in Black Arts such as the Harlem Renaissance, the Black Power movement, and so forth. In the media, there is still a dire need to tell our stories in an authentic light that reflects the humanity of African Americans. We aren't regarded as humans and multifaceted people due to racism and unjust stereotypes.
My Profile:
Currently, I am a third-year actor at Columbia University's Theatre Program. Throughout my master's training, I have yearned for more specialized training in the Black Arts than what I am receiving at Columbia. Even though, I love the in-depth and hands-on acting training I'm receiving there, Columbia recently added a few courses geared towards the works of the African Diaspora. Yet, I want to explore more works from my people and learn more about the legacy of Black storytellers that came before me. My dreams are to curate and write my own stories from the African Diaspora, my experience as a Ghanaian-American woman/artist, and be of service to my community.
Classes begins: July 9th-August 10th
Tuition Breakdown: $3250 (includes $500 deposit plus $2750)
New Deadline for first part of tuition ($950): July 2nd, 2018
Deadline for second part of tuition ($900): July 20th, 2018
Deadline for third part of tuition ($900): August 10th, 2018
So far, I have paid the $500 deposit and I am working diligently to save up enough funds to pay off my tuition. However, I humbly can't do this alone without the support of all of you. This opportunity means the world to me and I would love your assistance in any way you can provide. I want to make a difference in the world by illuminating the positive messages, experiences, and talents of my people and how our stories always matter. Please help me get there.
I am grateful to you all and I truly appreciate you all!
Thank you and God bless,
-Candace Boahene
