I am currently teaching elementary reading and raising funds to attend the Orton-Gillingham Plus Course Reading Workshop, a professional development training that will help me bring new skills and strategies back to my students.

America’s literacy crisis is reflected in the fact that, in 2024, only 31% of U.S. fourth-grade students performed at or above the NAEP Proficient level in reading, meaning nearly 7 out of 10 students did not reach that benchmark.

My work is in the nonprofit sector, where I serve our local community. This opportunity will allow me to better support students with reading and learning challenges and help them build the literacy skills needed for future success.
