Aatituu, My name is Hovak Johnston I am fundraising trying to help an Inuk Elder Allen Maghagak.

Allen needs help financially otherwise he will be evicted from his place. He has been having heath issues for awhile and is bedridden right now which led to falling behind on his bills.

Allen is feeling very weak, depressed, frustrated and desperate at this time.

If he does not make rent payment this month he will be evicted.

Allen has been calling out for help with no success, he feels he needs 9-10k to reset and get back on his feet.

Allen is living in the Ottawa area and can not move back home to the Kitikmeot in the central Arctic as the waiting list for housing is so long it is near impossible for someone who is not currently living there and move back to get a place.

As a vital Inuinnaqtun speaker who has given so much to our Inuit culture and helped many Inuit especially in our beautiful language of Inuinnaqtun. We have such a low number of fluent old school Inuinnaqtun speakers. Allen has been a translator for many years..

I can not see another Inuk Elder about to be homeless and do nothing about it.

Unfortunately we have many Inuit elders who like Allen that are residential school survivors in a housing crisis. Hard to see many of our knowledgeable hard working Inuit struggle.

Please help even if it’s just a little, any amount will go a long way. Let’s help one Elder out at a time. If you can’t donate please share as it will reach a larger audience.
