Miss Elena was born April 30th after 60 hours of induced labor by Cesarean Section. Unfortunately following Elena’s first cry, Dr.’s noticed Elena wasn’t moving. She was taken to ICU where she was quickly transferred to Children’s Hospital. Elena had a very serious bacterial infection and had to be placed on ECMO life support. Her little lungs had collapsed. Her body temperature had to be lowered and multiple antibiotics administered. Dad accompanied Elena to hospital.

In the meantime Mom spiked a high fever and she also had to be placed on antibiotics. Worried, she pleaded to go be with her baby. Hospital released her to Daddy and they made the trip from San Jose to Oakland. But because she wasn’t healed, she began to have severe pain and complications at her incision site. She wound up back in the ER in San Jose for emergency surgery. Dr.’s had to open her back up and clear the infection out.

To make matters worse She received a phone call from Dr that Elena would probably not make it through the night. Again Mom is released to go to her baby.

Parents have been reunited with baby but it’s not easy. They have yet to hold her or kiss her or do any of the normal bonding that new parents are entitled to. Mom struggles with pain and fatigue both physically and emotionally. Dad is Super Hero status but is also emotionally drained. They’re struggles are not over by a long shot. Elena has stabilized some but has a long road ahead of her.

My reason for this Go Fund Me page is Dad had just started a new job a short time ago and was not on job long enough for benefits or vacation pay. Mom of course has coverage but no one could have known or planned for the amount of time away from work this will entail. His job is guaranteed but without pay. The daily trips from San Jose to Oakland in gas alone are mounting. And there will certainly be medical bills that will not be covered by insurance alone. Any donation big or small will be greatly appreciated and loved.
