International Hostel in Portland needs help!

The Coronavirus crisis is hitting our well loved hostel hard. We are raising funds to keep the jobs of our valued and dedicated staff. All that we raise will go to pay their wages. If you purchase a gift certificate (no expiration) for the Hostel (lodging) or Cafe (food & drink), these funds will help pay the bills. For a gift certificate email us at [email redacted].
This is the time of year when many groups and travelers come stay with us over spring break time. We rely on this spring income to recover from the slower winter season. Since President Trump banned travel from Europe, and all conferences and school trips have been cancelled, reservation cancellations are coming in by the hundreds. We are wanting to honor refunds to these groups and individual travelers, but need to continue to pay the bills and keep the jobs of our hard working staff. We want to keep our hostel and cafe open for the travelers that need a good clean place to stay and for the community to have a place to order healthy budget priced food. These funds will first go to save the jobs of our 30 employees, keeping the hostel and cafe staffed. Then to provide refunds to those groups and people who had to cancel.
About the Hostel: we are family owned and operated. We started 22 years ago with a goal to provide a home on the road for world travelers who visit our city. In 2017 we expanded, adding more beds to serve more travelers, and adding the Hostel Cafe to provide a common area for the travelers and the community to interact, and provide healthy scratch made food at a good price. Over the 3 years, the cafe has become a folk music center with live music at least 4 times a week. Our Hostel, just a month ago, was rated the 3rd Best Midsize Hostel in the world, by Hostelworld, using 1.1 million traveler reviews of 17,700 hostels.
We are asking for contributions and/or the purchase of gift certificates with no expiration dates, for future lodging at the hostel and/or at the Hostel Cafe, for food and drink. The gift certificates can to given to friends and family, or used yourself. Let us know if you would like a gift certificate to the Hostel or Cafe for your contribution.
