Greetings,
My name is Brandon Lott. I'm a PhD candidate. I just submitted a dissertation last week entitled "Integrating The Shadow of The City". The hope of course is that this dissertation would be approved and I can move forward with my life. However, there's one problem.
My 2020 started with my school informing me that they failed to charge me for 2 quarters. $10,000. Now that we are going into another quarter, I have amassed a total of $14,050. Since this is my dissertation extension, I'm ineligible for financial aid. Thus, I must have this paid in full by 4/20/20 or else it could result in an "administrative withdrawal". The other option would be to take a leave of absence. This option would dissolve my dissertation committee. Neither are good options.
But, let me tell you about the work!! "Integrating The Shadow of The City" is a depth psychological case study I performed on the relocation and redevelopment of the Alice Griffith community in San Francisco. The question was around what is needed to integrate this historically marginalized community into the luster and wealth of San Francisco. I looked at the organizational efforts that were being employed to support this community's transition and interviewed residents and social service providers to get a better understanding of what was and wasn't working. In addition to this I utilized my own time as an employee working on the project as well.
My hope is that this work could help us to to address a couple of questions: How do we create and promote new ways of being in community together to defeat historical systemic marginalization? How do we create thriving multicultural communities out of long-standing division? Can we? How do residents gain greater influence on their local community building and transformation efforts? This is the kind of work that I hope that this research could contribute to.
I am grateful for any support you can offer in helping me complete this mission. I would like to share a link to my defense (when it happens) for all of you to participate. If you can give, thank you, if you cannot ... I most definitely understand (hard times). Even sharing this campaign is support enough.
Much Love,
Brandon
P.S. This picture is a photo of the old and new community that I worked in and where I did my research.
