My name is Sandra Shaffer and my daughter is Jemma Shaffer. She is 3 years old, has Autism Spectrum Disorder, and is non-verbal. It was a long, hard road to get that diagnosis, along with any help that my husband, Nick, and I have ever tried to get for her. The struggles and roadblocks with Medicaid and insurance companies are a fight I wish upon no one. Nick and I have finally found an ABA Therapy Facility for Jemma that she can attend. She seems to love it, and we have already seen signs that she's starting to learn and understand new things.
However, we have just been informed that Medicaid switched her insurance provider (without our knowledge) because of a "glitch," and the ABA facility does not accept the new provider. We are being told that Jemma will be re-enrolled into her original insurance provider, but that it will not go into effect until March 1st. The routine that we have built in partnership with the ABA facility is in jeopardy, and Jemma should not have to suffer because of a "glitch" that was out of our control. We have a scholarship for her that we could use to help pay for the ABA therapy until March 1st, but it's nowhere near enough to cover the whole cost. We've come to a point where we must ask for help. For Jemma. We cannot express how grateful we are for any donations that are made. All we want is to get the help our baby girl needs.
