As most of you know, also through the generosity of those who helped through GoFundMe, Sam was the recipient of a double lung transplant in March 2019. The last 3 years had been very good to him as he was able to get a job, start renting his own place, and go to school to work on an English degree. In October of 2022, that life was altered in a manner that blindsided him. He went in for a checkup and his lung function had dropped by half. Through blood work, we found out that he had what’s called, anti-body mediated rejection. It’s a type of rejection where the donor organ attacks the body as a foreign object. He’s been in the hospital ever since. Even catching COVID in January. Needless to say, being in a hospital bed for 6 months + has sapped him of his ability to get around. He’s currently at a rehabilitation facility that is making daily strides in his recovery. The only catch is that as of May 26th, a daily co-pay of $167.00 kicks in until he pays $5000.00. At which point the insurance goes into what’s called “catastrophic coverage’, and begins to pay in full. The people of the world came through in a big way through GoFundMe pre-transplant.
